Doggy Day Out with First UU Animal Ministry

I just found out about this amazing program that the Houston Humane Society has in place to help their shelter dogs while they are waiting for adoption. It’s called Doggy Day Out.

Volunteers take an adoptable dog out of the shelter for just a few hours, so they can exert pent up energy as well as be mentally stimulated to new experiences and people!

As a result of a Doggy Day Out, the dogs at the Houston Human Society are less anxious or exuberant when they meet potential adopters and they gain useful life skills that they wouldn’t get from just sitting and waiting in the shelter.

Another added bonus is that people who are not likely to come into the shelter are still able to see one of the good boys and girls available for adoption!

I registered as a Doggy Day Out volunteer and was put on the schedule immediately. We’ll be bringing a low to medium energy dog to church on Sunday May 19th!
