First UU Animal Ministry of Houston

Justice and Compassion for All Animals

What do we do?

  1. Fostering Harmonious Coexistence with Wildlife
    • Facilitate programs and initiatives that promote understanding and cooperation between the Houston community and wildlife, fostering peaceful coexistence in our urban environment.
  2. Advocating for Animal Rights
    • Engage in active advocacy efforts to champion the rights of all animals, whether they are cherished pets or animals in farms, working towards a more compassionate and just treatment for every living being.
  3. Combatting Pet Homelessness
    • Implement comprehensive strategies to address and reduce pet homelessness in Houston, focusing on education, responsible pet ownership, and collaborative efforts with local shelters and communities.

Partnering with Houston Pets Alive

Houston Pets Alive! acts as a safety net for municipal shelters/impound facilities and serves at-risk animals by working alongside animal welfare partners to holistically reduce euthanasia, pet homelessness, and animal suffering in the Houston area. We empower our community through education, outreach, and accessible care to share in our vision of a world where every cat and dog has a safe and loving home.

Marking National Animal Rights Day

The National Animal Rights Day (NARD) is an annual day observed in more than 50 countries around the world, on the first Sunday in June, for the purpose of giving a voice to all animals and raising awareness for their rights. It’s “Memorial Day” and “Independence Day” for the animals, combined.

Helping Adoptable Pets

The Houston Humane Society is dedicated to, & working towards, ending cruelty, abuse & the overpopulation of animals while providing the highest quality of life to those brought to us for care. First UUAM participates in the Doggy Day Out program by bringing an adoptable dog to church once a month.

Helping Houston Seniors with pet care

The Animeals program was founded so that homebound clients on Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston’s Meals on Wheels program would not feel compelled to share their limited food and resources with their four-legged friends.
