AniMeals in Action at Emerson UU Church

This past week, Emerson UU Church came together in a beautiful show of compassion and community through our AniMeals activity. Thanks to the generosity of the congregation, we collected pounds of dog and cat food to support pets belonging to seniors served by Meals on Wheels through Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston. These donations help ensure that beloved animal companions can stay with their humans—providing comfort, companionship, and stability.

What made the day especially meaningful was the energy and enthusiasm of our young volunteers. About six teens and six youth rolled up their sleeves to help package the food into manageable portions for delivery. Working side by side, they measured, scooped, and bagged with care—turning a simple task into a joyful, hands-on act of service. Laughter filled the room as they worked, and it was clear that everyone felt proud to be part of something bigger than themselves.

This effort will make a real difference. For many seniors, their pets are family—and ensuring those pets are fed helps prevent difficult choices between caring for themselves or their animals. We’re grateful to everyone who donated, volunteered, and supported this project. Together, we’re making life a little easier—and a lot kinder—for both people and their pets.
